Bat Removal & Exclusion Service

Closeup of Bat

Bats are terrible tenants. They carry a number of diseases, including histoplasmosis and various viruses, and are responsible for 70% of rabies deaths in the U.S. (a zoonotic disease).

When bats move into your apartment complex, commercial property or home, they cause unpleasant odors and often stain the ceilings, walls and floors surrounding entry and exit points. Their feces/urine can even damage wood and insulation.

The scariest part? The average bat can squeeze through an opening as small as 3/8 of an inch.

If bats settle in your structure, it’s important to promptly evict them. Rusty’s Animal Control (RAC) can help.

Complying with Regulations

Due to federal and state regulations, it’s illegal to use pesticides on bats.

The Endangered Species Act of 1973 and the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act of 1956 – protect several species of bats at a federal level. RAC handles bats in a humane way under the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulations.

Ensuring bats are removed in compliance with regulations makes it all the more important to hire a qualified expert like RAC – who is officially approved by the Indiana DNR – to handle infestations.

RAC’s Complete Bat Exclusion Services

Bats can be difficult to evict. They do not like to relocate, and their excellent sense of smell allows them to find their established roosts from miles away.

Due to the health hazards bats pose and the regulations that must be heeded, it is not advisable to attempt to handle an infestation on your own. The best practice is to retain an expert.

RAC uses a tried-and-tested process called exclusion to evict bats from dwellings and other structures and guarantee they don’t return.

At a high level, exclusion entails:

  • Finding all entry and exit points
  • Using a one-way door over entry/exit points which allows bats out, but prevents re-entry
  • Sealing the structure, with the exception of the main entry points, with caulk, backer rod, copper mesh, and/or hardware cloth prior to installation of a bat cone

RAC’s services don’t end once bats are excluded. As part of our remediation services, we will clean up the mess bats leave behind. This includes:

  • Damage remediation, including insulation replacement (if necessary)
  • Sanitization and cleaning

Once our services are complete, you can rest assured knowing RAC provides a one-year warranty with all exclusion work.
